According to an interview with the creative director on Tomb Raider, Noah Hughes revealed to True Gaming that Crystal Dynamics will not be bringing their reboot for Lara Craft to the Wii U. While the experiences across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC are near identical, Hughes explained that with the Wii U’s unique controller, they would have to take advantage of it and not just port the game to the Wii U.
Could Crystal Dynamics have used the screen on the Wii U GamePad as a map? Yup.
What about using it for playing the game off-screen? You bet.
Does the response sound like a excuse for not spending the money to port the game over to the Wii U? It’s possible.
The Wii U GamePad has all of the buttons of both the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers, and who is forcing Crystal Dynamics to even use the screen regardless? Leave the screen dark and put a notice on the back of the box about the game not utilizing the touch screen. Or, put a warning that the game only supports the Pro controller. There are games already released that require Wii remotes and nunchuck controllers, so why not the Pro controller?
