Sony unveils the PS Vita TV

The biggest surprise to come out Sony’s pre-TGS press conference involves a tiny white piece of hardware with the PlayStation label. Aptly named the PS Vita TV, you’ll be able to play Vita games on a television or monitor utilizing a DualShock 3 controller since the device acts as a set top box and doesn’t feature any type of controls. In the video trailer for the device, we caught glimpses of two people playing Tekken using two controllers at the same time. Obviously, you will lose any touch controls, so it will be interesting to see how this will impact development for Vita games. Including a PS Vita slot of games as well as a memory card, the PS Vita TV flawlessly runs the PS Vita OS, allowing for the use of the video streaming services on the device, such as Netflix and Hulu.

Arguable the best feature of the device, will be allowing you to play your PlayStation 4 via Remote Play on a different screen than the PS4 is hooked up to you. This basically allows the PS4 to be hooked up in one room, but played anywhere in your house (in theory). The PS4 functionality will come at a later date however.

The PS Vita TV is launching on Nov 14, 2013 in Japan and will cost approximately $100. No word on when Sony will be bringing the device to North America.
