The special Wizard’s Edition for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, which has was only sold through Namco Bandai’s online shop, has been oversold, resulting in numerous cancellations for valid orders for copies that were supposedly still in stock.
The e-commerce responsible for the online shop, Digital River, is a widely used provider across the industry. Things took a term for the worse when the Wizard’s Edition went back on sale after the initial batch and those that ordered in a matter of minutes are receiving cancellation emails – as well as a “sorry” coupon for $20 off their next purchase. A company by the name of PlayCanada, is apparently selling over 200 copies of the Wizard’s Edition on eBay for $399, plus shipping that will cost over $25, if shipped to the United States. Gamers across multiple forums, and Facebook have been crying foul, and for good reason.
The thread on the Namco Bandai community forums, claims users have called Digital River and were told that supplies were limited due to PlayCanada’s order. When this coveted special edition went back on sale for the second time, it was limited to one per customer.
Latest reports claim that PlayCanada doesn’t have the copies on-hand, but have already sold over 200 of them on eBay. Will Namco end up canceling the orders to PlayCanada? If so, PlayCanada is about to get some nasty feedback on eBay, as well as being forced to cancel those that purchased through them.
As of right now, no one wins. Namco has a PR nightmare, gamers have been clamoring to not buy from any site using Digital River, PlayCanada comes off as shady for selling the copies on eBay at such a high price, and most importantly customers are getting screwed all around.
We’ve reached out to Namco for clarification on the whole ordeal and will update the article when we hear back from them.
