As if there weren't enough hints in the past few months, Harmonix has officially announced that Rock Band 4 will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. No longer partnering with MTV Games, Harmonix will be teaming up with Mad Catz, who helped publish the last retail release of series. Sign up on the Rock Band website now to guarantee you'll acquire the new hardware by the time the game releases. No news if any of the older equipment will work with the new game.
The announcement didn't mention the game being available at PAX East, but those in attendance can pre-order an exclusive Penny Arcade-themed guitar in person at the Harmonix booth (#4224).
Rock Band 4 will support over 2,000 of the released tracks dating back to the original launch of the first Rock Band in 2007. More importantly, those that purchased or downloaded playable tracks on last-generation consoles will be able to re-download them on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. No details were given if you have to stay within the same family of consoles (PS3 to PS4, Xbox 360 to Xbox One). Harmonix expects hundreds of tracks to be available at launch, including both already released and new tracks.
Harmonix will reveal more details and new features of Rock Band 4 this coming May.
