Google has taken one step closer to dominating the internet, if a new report is to be believed. According to a GamesBeat report, the internet giant Google has purchased the game-streaming service Twitch.
This was rumored to happen as Variety reported, back in May, that the YouTube division of Google was attempting to strike a deal with Twitch to acquire the company for $1 billion. For reference, Google bought YouTube back in 2006 for $1.65 billion. The new report doesn’t state what the final price point for the deal was, but it can be assumed that it is somewhere in that range.
It will be interesting to see what the YouTube division does with Twitch’s streaming service. It is likely that they will be implementing it’s more reliable streaming capabilities to YouTube’s live streaming function along with seeing the Twitch site grow.
GamesBeat also says that it is unclear when the official announcement of the deal will commence. Both Google and Twitch have declined to comment on the report.
Twitch is viewable on virtually everything; computers, smart phones, tablets, and, most recently, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which also include easy streaming directly to the site. The service currently has over 50 million active users.
One of the newest feature integrates a live annotation to your YouTube channel videos, informing subscribers that you are live streaming Twitch at that very moment.
