Diablo V Announced for Spring 2029 as Sanctuary Falls

By Kevin Mitchell ·

Blizzard has announced Diablo V, with the next mainline entry targeting spring 2029. Revealed during BlizzCon 2026, the game begins with a major reversal for the series: Diablo has won, Sanctuary has fallen, and its heroes have been defeated.

That starting point puts the next battle for Sanctuary on very different terms. Blizzard frames the new game around what its characters must become after the world has already lost, establishing the premise for the sequel without spelling out its full campaign.

The announcement arrived with a brief official teaser, which you can watch below. Blizzard is also directing players to the Diablo V website to register for future updates.

A dedicated Diablo V developer panel is scheduled for September 12 at 1:45 p.m. Pacific / 4:45 p.m. Eastern, covering the game’s world, story, and approach to class design.

Spring 2029 is the announced release window; a specific launch date is not given in the opening-ceremony recap.
