Call of Duty: Black Ops II is back in black – really far in the black – grossing $1 billion in only 15 days in worldwide retail sales.
For comparison it took last year’s Modern Warfare 3 16 days to reach $1 billion in retail sales. The box office record which was set in 2009 with Avatar was 17 days. Why the comparison? I’m not sure. Going to see a movie certainly doesn’t cost $60, not to mention the higher price of the Collector’s Edition. But hey, why not compare apples and oranges. Fun fact, it took the entire cassette tapes industry a full year to reach $1 billion in sales back in 1998.
